Renowned Kenya’s spy queen and private investigator, Jane Mugo has been exonerated in a case where she faced allegations of threatening to shoot a businessman. The ruling was delivered due to insufficient evidence.
Senior Principal Magistrate Susan Shitubi, who presided over the case, concluded that the prosecution did not present enough evidence to substantiate the claims against Mugo.
The magistrate highlighted inconsistencies in the testimonies of the two prosecution witnesses, ultimately deciding that the burden of proof had not been met.
This verdict brings the case to a close, clearing Mugo of all charges.
The inconsistencies in the witnesses’ accounts, coupled with their lack of cross-examination, left the court unable to determine their credibility. As such, the benefit of doubt goes to the defense.
Magistrate Susan Shitubi ruled.
The court noted that the pistol allegedly used by private investigator Jane Mugo to threaten the complainant was never recovered during a police raid on her home.
Mugo had been accused of threatening to kill Deepa Shah at Kyuna Close in Spring Valley, Nairobi, in 2019. However, the charges were dismissed after the court found insufficient evidence to support the allegations.
The lack of tangible proof ultimately led to her acquittal.
