NAIROBI, KENYA — Prospective students and employers in Kenya are being warned about a significant number of institutions operating without proper authorization. The Commission for University Education (CUE) has released an official alert identifying 15 entities that are providing academic services illegally.
The CUE has made it clear that any qualifications obtained from these unaccredited institutions will be considered invalid. This announcement serves as a critical advisory to the public, emphasizing the importance of verifying an institution’s legitimacy before enrolling in any educational program.
The regulatory body urges individuals to exercise caution and to confirm the accreditation status of any college or university with the CUE directly.
This action is designed to protect Kenyans from fraudulent educational practices and to maintain the integrity of the nation’s higher education system.
The institutions listed are; Eldoret Bible College, Al-Munawwarah College, Grace Life Bible College, Africa Theological Seminary, Kenya Anglican University, The East African University Bradgate International University, Eldoret Bible College.
Others are; Regions Beyond Ministry Bible College, Baraton College, The Africa Talent University, Breakthrough Bible College, Theophilus Theological College, Northwestern Christian University, Logos University, Harvest Land University and Word of Faith Bible College.
Further, the Commission listed 79 institutions authorised to operate in Kenya, ranging from public and private universities to private university constituent colleges and institutions with letters of interim Authority.
“For the avoidance of doubt, any institution operating as a university or degree awarding and which does not appear on the Commission’s list of approved institutions is illegal and their degree qualifications will not be recognised in Kenya,” the notice read in part.
In recent weeks, the Commission for University Education (CUE) and law enforcement intervened at a graduation event held by Northwestern Christian University in Mombasa. This action was taken due to the institution’s failure to meet accreditation standards.
As a result of this intervention, approximately 100 degrees were declared invalid, and university personnel were taken into custody.
Following this event, Professor Chacha Nyaigotti, the Chairperson of the CUE, publicly reinforced the commission’s commitment to actively combat unaccredited educational institutions throughout the country.
“When we find you (institutions) parading yourselves as legitimate institutions offering programs that give out master’s degrees and bachelor’s degrees, then it is our duty to bring an end to this violation of the law,” he said.
