KAMPALA, UGANDA — Musician Edrisa Musuuza, popularly known as Eddy Kenzo, has addressed his response to security officers who attempted to halt his performance at a Kawempe North by-election campaign rally on Tuesday.
The incident occurred during Kenzo’s performance when security personnel requested that he pause, reportedly to facilitate President Museveni’s departure from the event.
The rally, held at Mbogo Muslim Primary School grounds, was the final campaign event for Faridah Nambi, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate for the Kawempe North MP by-election.
President Museveni and other leading NRM figures attended the heavily secured rally to support Nambi in the lead-up to the Thursday election.
Widely circulated videos show Kenzo visibly agitated, pushing away security personnel who had instructed him to stop his performance.
Shortly after, Kenzo was escorted off the stage, expressing clear dissatisfaction.
In a subsequent statement, Kenzo defended his actions, explaining that he felt provoked by the security personnel who encroached upon his performance area.
“I was on stage, and someone invaded my space. Am I the one who invaded him? He slapped me on the back. Who do you slap? I will defend myself if I am attacked,” Kenzo told journalists.
While generally known for his affable demeanor, Kenzo has experienced a few confrontations in the past. Notably, in 2014, he was involved in an altercation with a Dembe FM journalist, commonly known as Kasuku, whom he accused of disseminating false information.
Since that incident, Kenzo has largely maintained a conflict-free public presence, making the recent confrontation with security personnel at the rally a rare display of his anger.
