NAIROBI, KENYA — Comedian Vincent Mwasya, widely known as Chipukeezy, has been appointed Assistant Director of Protocol and Events in the Executive Office of the President, as announced by Dennis Itumbi in a statement dated Wednesday, March 26.
Itumbi congratulated Chipukeezy on his appointment, citing his contributions to the creative economy as deserving of the role.
“Congratulations Chipukeezy, on your appointment as Assistant Director, Protocol and Events in the Executive Office of the President,” Itumbi wrote.
“Habakkuk 2:3. May you serve with unwavering focus and passion as we work together to drive the success of the creative economy.”
Chipukeezy’s appointment comes amidst his close association with the Kenya Kwanza administration, where he has served as a Master of Ceremonies (MC) at several of President Ruto’s events.
His affiliations with the current regime have drawn criticism on social media, prompting Chipukeezy to respond to his detractors.
“To those who keep attacking us for what we are doing, let me tell you, it will be very hard to quit a paying job. Do you mean I would simply walk away from a job so that you celebrate me online? How stupid would I be?” he questioned.
“I’m an MC. I wouldn’t be asked to go MC a function and then turn down the opportunity just so that I can change Kenya. If you have a cause to change Kenya, I wish you well. But just because we are not part of your cause, don’t think we are pushovers.”
Prior to this appointment, Chipukeezy served on the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol Drug Abuse (NACADA) board during the Uhuru Kenyatta administration.
