PADER, UGANDA — A tragic accident in Pader district, northern Uganda, on Saturday resulted in the death of a 10-year-old boy who was fatally injured by his 12-year-old cousin during what began as a play session.
The incident occurred at approximately 5 pm in Mila Village, Paiula parish, Paiula sub-county. The deceased, identified as Solomon Ogen-rwot, was playing with his older cousin when the tragic event unfolded.
According to Ballex Okello, the LC V councilor for Paiula sub-county, the 12-year-old boy had created a toy spear by attaching a blunt knife to a stick. During their play, the makeshift spear was thrown and unfortunately struck Ogen-rwot in the neck.
Ogen-rwot was immediately rushed to Pajule health centre IV but was pronounced dead around 6 pm. His body has since been transferred to a mortuary for a postmortem examination. The two boys, who were cousins from the same extended family, had been residing with their grandparents. Their mothers, who are sisters, had both returned to their parental home.
Aswa East Regional police spokesperson, Joe Oloya, has confirmed that a comprehensive investigation into the incident is currently underway, and further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
