NAIROBI, KENYA — A new talent competition titled “Next Super Star” is scheduled to debut on Kenyan television on May 3rd, with the hosting duties shared by comedian Eddie Butita and media personality Amina Abdi Rabar.
The program aims to showcase exceptional singing talent from Kenya and the wider East African region, offering a significant platform for aspiring artists to gain recognition.
Speaking at the official launch event held in Upper Hill, Kenya Film Commission CEO Timothy Owase underscored the critical role of supporting and fostering the growth of the creative industries.
“The creative economy holds immense potential to drive economic growth. By empowering talent, we’re shaping the future of our country. Next Super Star is a strategic investment in that future,” he stated.
The launch event was attended by numerous celebrities and influential figures within the entertainment sector, including musicians King Kaka and Size 8 Reborn, as well as producer Motif the Don, all of whom will serve as judges on the show.
Supported by an investment exceeding KSh100 million, “Next Super Star” signifies a substantial commitment to cultivating talent within Kenya’s vibrant entertainment landscape.
The competition will feature 18 finalists who will compete for over KSh1 million in prizes, national exposure, and direct mentorship designed to fast-track their musical careers.
The competition is structured as a weekly series running until August, comprising a total of 26 episodes.
These will include 13 live main showdown episodes and 13 additional mid-week features, all intended to captivate audiences with exceptional musical performances and the personal narratives of the contestants.
